There are less than 100 days left for the dream to come true. The dream of skiers, of ski resorts, of an entire country... The organization of the finals of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup.
And next March, Andorra will host the Fis Ski World Cup Finals for the first time in its history, both in the men's and women's categories. It is, without a doubt, the most important sporting event in the history of the country.
The competition, followed by millions of people around the world, will place Andorra at the center of everyone's attention. Furthermore, the calendar has been capricious, since the test to be held in Grandvalira will be the last on the circuit, therefore, being decisive when determining the winner of the World Cup. A fact that, without a doubt, will direct attention and emotion towards the bell-shaped station and, consequently, all of Andorra.
This is one of the bets made by the country's administrations involved, since an event of this magnitude has a very large media impact and helps to position itself as a tourist destination on a global scale.
The world ski elite in Andorra
Never better said. Between March 11 and 17 of this year, 2019, which we already have at our doors, the Grandvalira resort will receive the 25 best skiers of each discipline, who will compete in the finals of the FIS World Cup. The scheduled tests are divided between the tests that are held throughout the competition in different stations around the world. They include the Giant, Super Giant, Downhill, Slalom and the increasingly consolidated Team Event event, the only event in which skiers compete against each other in a duel format, a spectacular modality that has more and more followers.
Grandvalira and Andorra... ready!
After many years working to adapt the infrastructure according to the requirements set by the International Ski Federation (FIS), Grandvalira will finally have completed the necessary improvements for the slopes that will be the protagonists of the event.
The Slalom and Giant Slalom disciplines will be held on the emblematic Avet track, located in the Soldeu sector, while the spectacular Águila track, in the Tarter sector, is fully equipped to host the technical and speed tests.
At the country level, all institutions have collaborated so that the works and the organization of the test are respectful in all aspects, since the infrastructure created and the impact it generates, causes Andorra to make a qualitative leap as destination of thousands of snow sports practitioners.
The Andorra 2019 Alpine Ski World Cup Finals, the opportunity we were waiting for
Hotels, restaurateurs and merchants in the country, aware of the opportunity presented by the organization of the Andorra 2019 Alpine Ski World Cup Finals, are already preparing their establishments to be ready when the event arrives.
In this sense, the Hotel Montecarlo, taking advantage of the privileged location in the center of Encamp, next to the Funicamp that connects with the Grandvalira domain, has the necessary services to welcome tourists who want to witness the competition events, as well as serve as a central base to get to know the rest of the country. From the Montecarlo hotel we will help you access all those activities that you want to practice among the large number that are carried out in Andorra.
From Grandvalira... to the world
We must reiterate what a great opportunity the organization of the FIS Ski World Cup finals represents for Andorra. From the town of Encamp and more specifically, from the slopes of Grandvalira, lights of glory will be emitted to the rest of the world. A unique opportunity to publicize our snowfields and the possibilities available to the small country of the Pyrenees.
Hosting the last big test of the season, which can decide who wins the Crystal Globe and the champions, both in the female and male categories, of the competition, is a great challenge for the country. Never fear! Organizing the FIS Ski World Cup finals is a dream come true, and who stops us from dreaming? Why not dream that Andorra could become a permanent venue on the Alpine Ski World Cup calendar? We have to keep dreaming, we have to keep working, and just in case, we add this wish in the letter to the Three Wise Men, that help never hurts.
