The Andorra Ultra Trail says goodbye and gives way to a new format/organizer

As of 2021, the Andorra ULTRA Trail project as such is officially completed, and a new format will begin through new organizers called TRAIL 100 ANDORRA PYRÉNEÉS.

The organization, after 11 editions, announced on May 15, 2020 the final goodbye to the Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord - "The great adventure that began in 2009 stops today and there would be no more editions of the test" - it can be read on his Blog.

It had been 2 months since the beginning of the Confinement in Europe caused by the global COVID-19 Pandemic, generating a context of exceptional crisis and uncertainty that made it not only impossible to maintain the 2020 edition (to guarantee the safety of all runners) but also the loss of most of the sponsorships to be able to maintain it.

We are therefore left with the best of memories of what was and what we lived, to give a warm welcome to the long-awaited initiative of the new organizers of the TRAIL 100 ANDORRA Pyrena that will take place starting in 2021.

We leave you with a sample of what the last edition of the Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord was like.

Record numbers in the eleventh edition of the Andorra Ultra Trail

One more year, with the arrival of the month of July, the parish of Ordino becomes, without any doubt, the epicenter of world trail running. The reason is well deserved: the celebration of a new edition of the Andorra Ultra Trail. This year, the test, fully consolidated, reaches its eleventh edition and does so with record numbers both in runner registrations and in the number of nationalities present at the event.

Runners from all over the world in the most international edition of the Andorra Ultra Trail

As indicated by the Andorra Ultra Trail organization at the end of June, this year's edition, which will be held from July 16 to 21 in Ordino, will have a total of 2,870 runners of 51 different nationalities, a record number that speaks very good about the evolution of this test, which was born in 2009 with only 657 registered.

As has already happened in previous editions, the Andorra Ultra Trail 2019 will feature runners from 7 nationalities unprecedented to date (Taiwan, Monaco, Morocco, Algeria, Latvia, Colombia and Guadeloupe), who will set foot in the mountains of Andorra for the first time. As for the rest of the nationalities that will stay in hotels in Andorra, Spain, France, Portugal and Japan will, once again, be the countries that will provide the most runners.

More than 78 different nationalities over eleven years

If we take into account the 11 editions and add the 7 new nationalities that will participate in this year's one, the Andorra Ultra Trail will have already had the participation of runners from 78 different nationalities, a figure that, without a doubt, makes it one of the most multinational trail running competitions in the world. In this sense, the same consul of Ordino, Josep Àngel Mortés, has highlighted the importance of this type of events not only for the Ordinenca parish, but for the entire country, ensuring that "this type of evidence has an increasingly greater impact and help to make the country known beyond our borders.

A small change in the route of the Marató dels cims, the only novelty in this year's routes

After adding new routes in previous years, this year's edition arrives fully consolidated and a fact that is evident is the maintenance of all the routes, with only a small modification in the route of the Marató dels cims. Thus, on July 17, the longest test, the Euphoria, will kick off, materializing what will be its third year of life. From here, the rest of the tests will start in order of distance, ending on Sunday, July 21, with the Solidaritrail , a popular 10 km race.

Euphoria

The endurance test par excellence. This is how we could define what the Euphoria route, 233 km and 20,000 meters of positive slope, means for the 143 brave people from 15 different countries who this year will participate in this incredible challenge. Euforia is nothing more and nothing less than a vital experience in which the runners will have to be exposed to the elements for long days (the time barrier to finish the test is 94 hours), dealing with all kinds of obstacles, steep climbs, a median altitude that is over 2,200 meters and even possible changes in the climate.

The Ronda dels Cims

Only 48 hours after kicking off the Euphoria, it will be the turn of the queen test: the Ronda dels cims . One of the essential requirements to participate in the Ronda dels cims is to prove previous experience in ultra trails and mountain races of this type of demand. The reason for this requirement is understood when analyzing the route, which is 170 km long and has 13,500 meters of positive gradient . This year 450 participants from 32 different countries will participate.

Mythic

A few hours later, it will be Mític's turn. With its 112 km of route and a total of 9,700 meters of positive slope, Mític becomes a true test of fire for any expert athlete in mountain trail running. In total, 500 runners of 34 different nationalities will dare to challenge this demanding route, with rugged slopes and narrow rocky paths. In addition, they will also have to reach the highest peak in all of Andorra: Comapedrosa (2942 m).

Celestrail

As tradition dictates, at midnight the Celestrial will start, a test of 83 km and 5,000 meters of positive gradient. Without a doubt, a true experience for those who want to challenge a route of these characteristics, with the handicap, and at the same time incentive, of starting the route in the middle of the night. This year, the Celestrial will have 500 entrants from 26 different countries.

The Cims Marathon

Finally, on Saturday morning the starting signal will be given to the already more than consolidated Marató dels cims, a test with a route of 42.5 km and 3,000 meters of elevation gain. The 2019 edition will have a total of 750 registered from 26 different countries.

Solidaritrail

As in previous editions, the test will close on Sunday morning with the Solidaritrail, the popular race of the Andorra Ultra Trail. With a 10 km route, the Solidaritrail is an inclusive race, suitable for all ages and levels of preparation, even for people with disabilities. The race will start from the town of Ordino, going up to Segudet and bordering the Planes de Sornàs. The final stretch will allow you to enjoy spectacular views of the entire valley along the Camino Real, which will accompany you until you cross the finish line, again, in Ordino.
